There are four places available for the following dates -
Sunday June (water based) 15th, 22nd, 29th - these dates act as a general bench mark for sessions but this course success relies on the flexibility of coach and attendees.
Thursday Evening 7pm (land based) set dates (ideally): June 12th, 19th, 26th.
Durations: 2 hours in total
The idea is that the group is flexible through the month of June in the hope that we can capture relevant footage and utilise good surf days. The surf dates below are a guide and as a group we can discuss flexibility.
Saturday start time: 7am - 9am (again - can be flexible depending on attendees availability and can be discussed on the first meeting)
Primary Location - Longsands Beach, Workshops; Tynemouth. Second location, Blyth or other local beach.
How many will be in the sessions?
These sessions will be open to four women. We have always ensured that our session sizes are small to ensure everyone attending gets the attention and support necessary to progress at their own individual pace. It is particularly important to have a small, focussed group for this intermediate course.
What is the intention of the course?
We will use video analysis as a powerful method of coaching and feeding back with three surf based and three land-based sessions alternating in order to set intentions, develop understanding and key concepts. You will get mine and Tom's time and input.
The focus of the surf based sessions will be to capture high-res footage and notes from shore to feedback and analyse all aspects and elements of the session - positioning, wave selection, paddle, pop-up, manoeuvres, generating speed, poise, footwork and other wider concepts. Before each session we will set intentions and focus individually.
Back on land; for these sessions, we will analyse the footage and set new intentions; we will work on mindset, delve into deeper forecasting, discuss wave types, understanding manoeuvres, equipment and other relevant aspects of surfing. We will draw upon the huge wealth of material we have gathered over the years.
Longboard or shorter board (eggs, midlengths, mini-mals, fish or shortboard) or a mixture depending on conditions will be suitable; we can cover all styles.
As this pilot is aimed at those transitioning from regular use of foamies/soft tops to fibreglass boards we will consider a range of boards to support this making use of your existing boards and Yonder boards.
Course format:
Session 1: Meet and greet - a chance for us all to set intentions and expectations, to discuss things we might be struggling with and want to focus on. It is important to share these together and build positive connection for the coming sessions. In addition to this we will refer to Yonder resources to review paddle and pop up techniques delving into concepts around surfing.
Session 2: Water based session with coaching & video analysis from the land - beach tbc.
Session 3: -Video analysis feedback referring to Yonder coaching material and resources.
Session 4: Water based session with in-water coaching and video analysis - location tbc.
Session 5: Video analysis feedback referring to Yonder coaching material and resources.
Session 6: Water based session with in-water coaching and photos from land.
What level of surfing do you need to be?
In order to get the most out of these sessions we do require surf experience. You must be comfortable to paddle out back (within reason) you have been independently surfing with your own board (can be a foamie/soft top). We ask that attendees have an understanding of how to control their surfboards and a base level of understanding around surf etiquette and surf safety - these will of course be discussed but prior knowledge is required.
A desire to paddle for, catch and pop up on green waves with some experience of doing this is required. For us, it is also more about your confidence levels in the sea and ability to 'go for' green waves and feel confident to paddle out back and manoeuvre a board. Each surfer is always individually supported in their surf journey. Just message me (Sal) if you’re not sure.
Flexibility
The very nature of surf in the UK means that we are likely to have at least one of the days with unfavourable conditions. We would ask anyone booking on to be open to date or time changes within reason and will work to make sure these changes work for everyone in the group.
The idea is that the group is flexible through the month of June in the hope that we can capture relevant footage and utilise good surf days.

What our previous participants have said:
Yonder is a rare gem! Sally's coaching techniques are truly bespoke. By listening to the individual she develops trust that allows you as a surfer take those bold next steps you wouldn't feel confident to make alone.
I have just returned from an intermediate surf camp which was filled with breakthroughs for all the surfers. Sally's guidance & Tom's photo analysis make for a truly inspiring few days. I have left with a better idea of where I need to focus to progress & a group of like minded individuals I can now call to go for a surf.
If you have ever wondered if this is for you, it is! Just drop them a line & you too could be part of this beautiful community! Laura O'connor
