Ocean Confidence
Someone who would like to learn to feel safe and have fun in the sea. Those that book onto these sessions are happy to learn to paddle on a board when it is flat and likewise happy to leave the board behind and try body surfing and generally reconnecting with the sea, building an awareness around all things sea safety.

Absolute Beginner
Someone who is completely new to surfing, they have never been on a board before and would like to try it for the first time. Someone who is keen to get in the sea, they may be a little nervous but ready to give it a go.

Beginner Plus
Someone who has had a lesson or a few lessons before but is still wanting to work on the basics and build confidence in the sea and getting used to paddling, catching whitewater waves and learning to stand up, honing technique and learning more about sea safety.

Improver
Someone who has had a few lessons and has been getting in independently. They understand how to catch whitewater waves and standup but are wanting to improve their technique and start progressing onto green waves (when appropriate) learning how to handle slightly bigger conditions and learning how to stay safe in a range of conditions. The improver should be able to paddle on a board and change direction. They will be wanting to learn about surf etiquette.

Intermediate
Someone who understands the principles behind catching green waves and can consistently get to their feet but are wanting to work on wave selection, going down the line from the drop, taking the drop, bottom turns & top turns and starting to work on cutbacks. They are more confident in slightly bigger conditions (3-4ft) and want to work on paddle techniques to get out back on bigger days. they should be able to change direction whilst paddling and have a good understanding of sea safety, surf etiquette and have control over their surfboards in varying conditions. As an intermediate surfing you are expected to be regularly surfing independently and with your own hard board and have moved off a foam board/ soft top.
