“I've been wanting to attend a Yonder surf camp for a couple of years and it was well worth the wait! Sally and Tom are so caring, encouraging, and supportive in and out of the water. Their authenticity and passion for female surf culture shines through in everything that they do. Attending their surf camp has reignited my confidence and motivation in pursuing my surf journey. I'm so glad to be a part of the Yonder family.” Bianca, 2023.
The camp will be limited to six spaces in order to ensure maximum input for each guest.
Scarborough is a place we hold very dear as it is where we learnt to surf. There are a number of beaches in the area to choose from depending on conditions and it's a great place to start your surfing journey. It's also probably a lot closer by train than you think. We love the East Coast!
The accommodation for the weekend is in a beautifully situated house with sea views, conveniently located for the surf.
We will take guests to the best break on each day and provide tuition and feedback in order to get everyone feeling confident in the water and flourishing as a surfer. The camp will be a great opportunity to surf with like-minded women in a safe and supportive environment.
Our Improver camps focus on how to catch green waves, how to position yourself on the wave and ride in trim. We look at the different types of waves, ocean safety, surf forecasting, building ocean confidence in the water and how to paddle out back (surf depending) - the camps are a great opportunity to ask as many questions as possible and we have an excellent range of surf resources to help you improve.
In order to get the most out of the camp some surf experience is necessary mainly so that we know we can happily take you ‘out back’ as a group; the ability to paddle for, catch and pop up on white water waves is required though it doesn't have to be that you can do this consistently. Get in touch if you are unsure if this is for you, we can have a chat and see which camp might be best - there is a beginners camp the previous week which will be better suited if you have never surfed before or are getting to grips with the basics.
Guests arrive at the camp Wednesday morning ready for their first surf lesson. After the first session and some lunch we will make our way to the house. Guests should expect the camp to finish around 1pm on the Friday.
We provide -
All meals for the Wednesday and Thursday with breakfast on the Friday. Expect hearty home cooked vegetarian food, nothing fancy, just good and wholesome.
All equipment if needed including access to fibreglass boards foamies and soft-tops- you can bring your own of course.
Two x two hour surf sessions on the Wednesday & Thursday with a supervised/supported surf session on Friday morning, expect to end the camp around 1pm. There is always the potential for lessons to turn into one bigger surf session if the tides/wind/conditions dictate.
Surf forecasting and catching & understanding waves/theory tips on an evening
Photo & video feedback sessions - absolutely essential to help build confidence and improve. We are really lucky to have the talented @tombingphoto on board to document the weekend and help give specific feedback about your surfing.
Surf Skate coaching by qualified and experienced skateboarder Tom Bing if the weather permits. This is optional as some may not want to join in however it has proven to be a fantastic tool for understanding surf concepts & improving your surfing confidence.
Surf Theory, concepts, culture and equipment discussions will take place throughout the camp
Surf movies on tap
Beautiful photos for you to keep at no extra cost
Yonder & Finisterre goodie bag!
All lessons are taught by Finisterre Ambassador Sally McGee, experienced surfer and ASI Accredited surf coach
Prior to all camps we set up a group WhatsApp so that girls can talk and discuss your own travel plans. Girls have often shared lifts to the camp through this and the group remains open after the camp.
You provide:
We provide a complimentary drink on the first evening but guests are welcome to bring their own alcohol and any snacks they will want for the trip.
Transport to the surf: We are unable to provide transport to the surf due to transport capacity. In the past girls have teamed up to do this.
Accommodation: We will be situated close to South Bay in a beautiful apartment with sea views. There are two double bed private rooms and two twin rooms shared options. The price for each differs. Please check when booking.
Yonder is a family run business, expect good vibes, hearty vegetarian food and a lovely trip with like minded ladies.
Any questions, please don’t hesitate to get in touch on info@surfyonder.com.
Important Disclaimer - Unfortunately, due to the very nature dependent reality of surfing we cannot necessarily guarantee good surf conditions. We always run our camps in areas that are more consistent and during the more consistent swell months in order to increase the potential for good conditions. If the surf is flat we will explore the coastline, run surf paddle sessions (not SUP) and workshops with the option of a sea swim (gentle sea swim!) at Flamborough head!
Deposit disclaimer: Deposits paid can not be refunded. It takes a lot of administration to organise the camps, a lot of time and energy with limited availability so if you’re booking it is important to know that the deposit will not be refunded. Once you have paid in full we will only be able to refund the remainder (not the deposit) if we are informed in enough time to secure a replacement, no later that one month before the camp and only if we can get a replacement.
